Holding our city leaders accountable

3/29/2015

There's a meeting scheduled Monday to discuss a plan to get the city to redirect money to our part of town for improvement in our infrastructure. We will be taken seriously only if enough neighbors take action. The city leaders only seem to pay attention and give money to neighborhoods that get out to vote and show up at meetings--the city's funny that way. See the following announcement:

After our candidate conversation on Feb 19th and the concerns we heard there, neighbors and local leaders are continuing to organize. At our follow up meeting on March 9th, VOICE and neighborhood leaders identified the following:

We lack adequate police officers for a city of our size as well as an ability to train the additional officers we need quickly enough.

We see insufficient investment in the infrastructure of our inner city including our neighborhoods, schools, public transportation and commercial areas. We feel that our neighborhoods are being left behind.

We see increasing amounts of panhandling and homeless individuals in the inner city and understand it is a complex and not necessarily related problem. We want to seek resolutions that help people get the support they need and not push the problem to other neighborhoods.

Join us Monday, March 30th at 7pm at Church of the Open Arms. We will be narrowing in on some of the issues raised so far and deciding on a course of action. We invite any neighbor interested in meeting these challenges. I hope you can attend.

Dear Neighbors,

The Shepherd Historic District Neighborhood Association conducted its annual elections last night.  Jeanne Hammond will remain as the Treasurer and I will assume the role of Secretary. Both the President and Vice President positions remain vacant.  As such, the 2014-2015 Board approved its final agenda items and no further agenda items will be considered or approved until a President/Vice President are elected.  Another election event will be scheduled in the near future.  Please contact me if you are interested in one of these positions.

Sincerely,

Craig Walker, Secretary
Shepherd Historic District Neighborhood Association
